Job description

Estimator – Construction

Location: Liverpool
Salary: Competitive DOE
Sector: Education / Main Contracting

Our client, a well-established Main Contractor based in Liverpool, is looking to appoint an Estimator to join their growing Construction team. The business delivers a wide range of projects, predominantly within the Education sector, with project values typically ranging from £500k to £1m.

This opportunity would suit either:

  • An Estimator looking to develop within a supportive contractor environment, or
  • A slightly more experienced candidate with some Quantity Surveying exposure who can bring additional commercial value to the team.

The Role

The successful candidate will support the pre-construction function and play a key role in the tendering process, helping to secure projects within tight turnaround times, typically 2–3 days.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and assisting with cost estimates and tender submissions
  • Sending out subcontractor and supplier enquiries
  • Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
  • Supporting the commercial and pre-construction teams throughout the tender process
  • Assisting with pricing analysis and cost comparisons
  • Working on projects primarily within the Education sector
  • Supporting the delivery of competitive tenders on projects valued between £500k–£1m

Candidate Profile

Our client is focused more on personality, attitude, and capability than the specific companies candidates have worked for.

They are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience within estimating in the construction industry
  • Ideally has some Quantity Surveying knowledge or exposure (preferred but not essential)
  • Is commercially aware and organised
  • Can work effectively in a fast-paced tender environment
  • Has strong communication and supplier management skills
  • Is proactive, reliable, and eager to develop

Additional Information

  • Office-based role in Liverpool
  • Occasional work-from-home flexibility available
  • Strong team environment with opportunities for progression
  • The company competes through service, relationships, and agility rather than high-value national contractor projects
