Job description
Job Title: Assistant to Intermediate Quantity Surveyor
Location: Bradford
Salary: Circa £30,000 - £50,000 per annum, dependent on experience
About Us:
We are a dynamic and growing main contractor specializing in both new build and refurbishment projects within the education, healthcare, and local council sectors. Our project values typically range from £1 million to £2.5 million, allowing us to focus on quality and building strong client relationships rather than chasing volume or high-value contracts.
Job Overview:
We are seeking an Assistant to Intermediate level Quantity Surveyor who is comfortable managing their own projects under some guidance. You will play a key role in ensuring that projects are delivered within budget, on time, and to the highest standard. The role will see you working primarily on education, healthcare, and council sector projects with typical values between £1 million and £2.5 million.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of working on-site and from the office but is also looking for the flexibility to work from home following site visits. We offer a family-friendly work environment, with flexibility for school runs and other personal commitments.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and deliver projects under guidance, from pre-construction through to final accounts.
Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
Assist in the procurement of subcontractors, ensuring best value.
Perform cost analysis and maintain project budgets.
Measure and value works on-site for interim and final payments.
Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and site teams.
Monitor project progress and produce accurate reports on financial performance.
Handle variations, change orders, and contractual claims.
Assist in producing and managing final accounts.
Key Requirements:
Experience: Proven track record in Quantity Surveying with experience in refurbishment and new build projects, particularly in the education, healthcare, or local council sectors.
Project Values: Experience managing projects between £1 million and £2.5 million.
Autonomy: Ability to run your own projects independently and efficiently, with minimal supervision.
Location: Must be located within 1 hour's travel of our office (near Leeds).
Qualifications:
Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
Skills:
Strong negotiation, cost management, and reporting skills, with a good understanding of construction contracts.
IT Proficiency: Familiar with MS Office, CostX, or similar software.
Driving License: A valid UK driving license and willingness to travel to sites as required.
What We Offer:
Competitive salary of around £45,000.
Family-friendly policies to accommodate school runs and personal commitments.
Opportunity to work on interesting projects that have a meaningful impact on the community.
Supportive, close-knit team environment where growth happens naturally.
Regular opportunities for professional development and progression.
