We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Engineer to support the delivery of refrigeration and air conditioning projects within the food retail sector. These roles are ideal for seasoned professionals with a strong background in supermarket refrigeration systems and a desire to transition from service-based roles into project delivery and installation.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership: Act as the primary technical liaison on site, representing the project team to contractors, clients, and internal stakeholders.
Project Support: Assist the Project Manager with programme delivery, acting as their eyes and ears on site to ensure smooth execution.
Installation & Commissioning: Oversee the installation and commissioning of refrigeration systems, ensuring full compliance with PESR and FGAS standards.
Health & Safety: Promote and enforce a robust safety culture, ensuring all site activities adhere to health and safety regulations and company protocols.
Quality Assurance: Ensure systems are installed to specification and thoroughly tested before handover.
Technical Surveys: Conduct site audits and dilapidation surveys to assess whether existing equipment should be replaced or reused, supporting design and consultancy teams with technical recommendations.
Contractor Coordination: Liaise with main contractors and subcontractors to ensure timely and efficient site delivery.
System Decommissioning: Support the removal and replacement of legacy systems as part of upgrade programmes.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Minimum 8 years experience in food retail refrigeration, particularly within supermarket environments.
Familiarity with central plant systems and breakdown diagnostics.
Previous hands-on experience with refrigeration equipment and air conditioning systems.
Background in companies specialising in food retail refrigeration (e.g., installation, service, or maintenance).
Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to manage site relationships and technical challenges.
Desire to transition from service roles into project engineering and installation.
